He Drank Too Many Cigarettes - Fiona Thorn sings Serge Gainsbourg
A firm favourite of the Paris Cat, internationally renowned chanteuse Fiona Thorn dips into the songbook of provocateur Serge Gainsbourg with an intimate performance at the Paris Cat on April 6th - 6pm..
Serge Gainsbourg was a highly controversial figure in his lifetime; his music was often laden with heavy sexual innuendo and morbid themes, and his personal life and off-stage behaviour were consistently in the public eye.
Despite this scrutiny, his mastery of a variety of musical styles and his unique personality have established Gainsbourg as a key musical influence, both in France and around the world.
Fiona Thorn will present a choice selection from the Gainsbourg musical genius, with favourites such as “Black Trombone”, “La Javanaise” and “Le Poinconneur”. Also featured will be “Je T’Aime... Moi Non Plus” – denounced by the Vatican and banned from radio play in a number of European countries for its ‘climax’ – as well as an homage to Gainsbourg’s iconic concept album “Melody Nelson” and other rare treats.
Accompanied by her all star band led by award winning Musical Director John Thorn, drummer Alon Ilsar (Meow Meow), violinist (et al) Nigel MacLean (Black Arm Band) and guitarist Sam Lemann (Grace Knight), Fiona Thorn’s “He Drank Too Many Cigarettes” will be an unforgettable night of great French music.
