Juliawhy? 'Deep Fake' Single Launch
with Hotel
Sydney's favourite shoegazer trio Julia Why? brings us some long-awaited new music alongside the exciting and perfect news of joining the Blossom Rot Records roster. Eponymous frontperson Julia Wylie is joined by Kat Harley (Mezko, The Laurels) on guitar and Frank Salt on drums - three people creating a huge amount of sound.
New single "Deep Fake" is a tongue-in-cheek look at the addictive and vampiric soul-sucking feeling that social media instills in all of its users.
Of the music video starring Julia's dog Hazel, Julia says: "During recording we were all cackling with laughter imagining my dog Hazel as a “super fan” social media creep that spends their days stalking the band on Instagram. And voila - a star was born."

Julia Why? has toured extensively throughout Australia and Canada, playing alongside acts such as Tropical Fuck Storm, Waxahatchee, Hinds, Hatchie, Cosmic Psychos, The Lemon Twigs, Crocodylus and more. The rest of 2024 sees Julia and full band taking the stage once again to present their epic new material and intricate wall of sound - starting off with a single launch on Thursday 10 October at Enmore's Trocadero Room with Gadigal post-punk band Hotel in support.
"For fans of the Cocteau Twins, My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive. Halfway through this MBV-indebted slice of cloud-skipping shoegaze, a surprising one-liner comes out of nowhere and slaps the listener across the face." - The Guardian
"With alt rock cred, attention grabbing melodies and real pathos, Julia Why? have made a habit out of inspiring awe, both live and on record – and it’s earned them some serious airtime on FBi Radio.” - FBi Radio

HOTEL are a female fronted, Post punk five piece featuring members of Enclave, Terza Madre and The Laurels. With stark, repetitive drum beats and bleak synth bass notes layered under almost incongruous, 60's spy thriller, reverb heavy guitar lines, the sound of HOTEL has been described as 'Apocalyptic Noir' and 'Devastation Pop'. Lyrically driven, their songs focus on themes of class warfare, social isolation, and present day dystopias.'
