Ruby Gill Single Launch

More than two years on from the success of Ruby Gill’s debut record ‘I’m gonna die with this frown on my face,’ the South Africa-born, Naarm-based musician is back with long-awaited new music this November 2024, made quietly alongside a choir of queer women and gender-diverse local musicians in halls and homes across Victoria.

Known to bring even the most stoic to tears with her profound reflections, Ruby’s “lyrical wizardry” and deadpan wit have earned her shows the reputation of unmissable. And now, to celebrate the launch of new single ‘Some kind of control,’ out Nov 7th 2024, Ruby will take to the stage in Naarm and on Gadigal Country for two intimate band shows with beautiful supports, poetry and a whole lot of excitement for more releases to come.

Recently named Breaking Act in the Sunday Times (UK) and one to watch by NME, Ruby’s debut album garnered high international acclaim in 2022, including nominations for the Australian Music Prize, airplay from KCRW to BBC6Music, and global media acclaim from the likes of The Guardian, The Independent, Clash, NME and more. In the lead up to this was the critically acclaimed “you should do this for a living”, featuring prominent VIC voices like Angie McMahon and Maple Glider and exploring male power and coercion in the music industry. Zan Rowe called it "One of the best songs you'll hear."

Ruby also brings a touring history to be reckoned with, from multiple sold-out headline tours in South Africa and Australia, to festival acclaim at Woodford and Emerging Artist of the Year at Port Fairy Folk Festival, as well as supporting Angie McMahon, Stella Donnelly, Matthew Maltese, Missy Higgins, The Teskey Brothers and more.
