The Sugarfoot Ramblers are BACK after a sell out shows in 2025!!

  

The Sugarfoot Ramblers are a group of young musicians from Melbourne who have studied and played contemporary jazz styles, but also share a love of traditional jazz. After spending time in New Orleans, Travis Woods and Daniel Berry decided to form this band to explore the classic traditional jazz repertoire.

The group has performed around town quite regularly over the past couple years including appearances at the Wangaratta Jazz Festival, Stonnington Jazz Festival, Bellingen Jazz Festival, Bennetts Lane Jazz Club, The Paris Cat and Uptown Jazz Cafe.

  

Travis says, “We all love the music of Louis Armstrong, Sidney Bechet, Duke Ellington and Jelly Roll Morton, as well as local legends and personal heroes, The Red Onions and The Hoodangers. So that’s the music we enjoy playing in this band.”

  

**About Georgie....**

Georgina Darvidis is one of Melbourne’s most versatile and adventurous young artists. Beginning her musical study exploring theatre and classical vocal technique lead to major roles with The Melbourne Theatre Company and The Victorian Opera Company. After completing a Bachelor in Improvised music at The Victorian College of the Arts, she began to investigate more traditional jazz styles as well as free improvisation and cross disciplinary compositional forms. This lead to overseas study with acclaimed practitioners Shelley Hirsch and Theo Bleckmann in 2013.

  

Georgina's recent projects include performing in the premier original vocal theatre work "Permission to Speak" presented by the Chamber Made Opera company, features with the Australian Arts Orchestra, guest artist with the Rubiks Collective and completing a collaborative commission with the Bennetts Lane Big Band and the Penny string quartet.

  

Georgina is currently developing a piece with Tamara Saulwick and the Chamber Made Opera Company for presentation in 2018 as well as preparing for a performance season in China presenting Between 8 and 9 (CMO). In 2017 Georgina was nominated for the Freedman Fellowship, recognising her cross disciplinary vocal practice. after recent performances with the Australian Art Orchestra at the London Jazz Festival and Jazz Topad in Poland, the ensemble is now preparing for a tour of North America in 2020. She will also be collaborating with Robin Fox new work Diaspora. In 2020 Georgina collaborated with Canadian Composer Nichole Lizee presenting perfomances in Toronto. Georgina is currently preparing for global tours with Julia Stone's new ensemble.
