Kick those Monday blues to the curb at Social Sanctuary – your weekly night of free live music at NSC. We've lined up a stellar roster of your fave local artists and some exciting new talents breezing through town!

This week Al Speers, McKimmie and The Rayes are stopping by for a show.

Al Speers is an alt-folk musician living in Naarm. Their lyrically-charged songwriting explores change in its many forms. Joined by their band, their live performances are at once introspective and explorative, moving the listener through the themes of love, loss, and identity.

McKimmie plays bedroomy shoegaze music. Inspirations for the band include action movies, diss tracks, feeling a bit off, feeling awesome, etc.

If nostalgia starred in a late summer 70s film, its soundtrack would feature The Rayes. Superimposing catchy melodies atop lilting harmonies and McCartney-esque basslines, the Naarm/Melbourne-based, Seattle-born group recalls themes of identity, yearning, and a witty reflection to sweeping emotion. The Rayes just released their LP 'Limb Pulled Taut,' a collection of 12 songs described as a, "gorgeous, sun-drenched 70’s, dreamy sound,”’ by Kate Kingsmill of RRR. 'Limb Pulled Taut' spans time and emotion: the courage sparked as a bat taking flight; the wistful twinge of a long-lost friend; the ironic telling of a day job grind. The Luna Collective expressed how the album, “captures the joy and pain of the human experience,” an honesty that The Rayes carry forward through their songwriting and performance.

Social Sanctuary is proud to be sponsored by Mountain Goat.

Our show is being held on the lands of the Wurundjeri People and we wish to acknowledge them as the Traditional Owners of this land we are gathered on. We also pay our respects to their Elders, past and present, and Aboriginal Elders of other communities that may join us for our show.
