Brown Spirits

_From psyched-out Krautrock to free-jazz wig-outs and funk-flavoured downtempo jams, Brown Spirits smash every show as if it were their last. Based in Coburg, the band maintains a strict DIY recording ethic and has released several records worldwide, with their two most recent albums on the UK’s acclaimed Soul Jazz Records—making them the first Australian act ever signed to the label. With strong support from Australian community radio and praise from Mojo UK, Uncut, KEXP and BBC Radio, the band has shared stages with favourite offshore influences including Kikagaku Moyo (Japan), Earthless (USA), Frankie and the Witchfingers (USA), Minami Deutsch (Japan) and Yawning Man (USA).  
  
Following their 2023 album Solitary Transmissions, a run of sold-out 45s on Soul Jazz Records and packed Melbourne shows, Brown Spirits returned with their new full-length release Cosmic Seeds, recorded and mixed by the band. The album continued their DIY tradition of 1960s–70s-inspired psychedelic jams and krautrock explorations, while the trio now push further beyond their motorik roots into funk- and jazz-leaning territory with moog-driven melodies and expanded sonic excursions.  
  
After recent performances at Meredith Music Festival and Melbourne International Jazz festival, the band are now heading to UK/Europe in May to perform at Freak Valley Festival (Germany) and Fuzztival (Denmark), plus a string of club shows in support of some upcoming LP reissues on Soul Jazz Records.    
  
In celebration on Friday May 8th, Brown Spirits will be playing a special farewell show at the Bergy Bandroom whilst also launching a strictly limited edition private press vinyl EP.  
  
This will be the band's last Melbourne show for a while!_
