Celebrating Women in Music (Fundraiser for Safe Waters)
Milton Theatre is proud to present a special fundraising event Celebrating W omen in Music, featuring a showcase of local artists who have come together to raise funds for local charity Safe Waters Community Care Inc. Safe Waters was established in 2019 to assist those experiencing homelessness due to the lack of supported crisis accommodation in the local area. The organisation addresses homelessness in our local area by operating a safe shelter, providing nutritious meals, supporting people, and offering transitional housing for the most vulnerable. You may recognise her from her work with Sydney Indi group Hot Spoke (Mercury Records) or EMI Supergroup A sides Club, which features members from Boy and Bear, All Our Exes Live in Texas and The Whitlams. As a songwriter, Ness has written songs with the likes of Lee Alexander (Norah Jones, Josh Pyke), Nic Cester (Jet), Isabelle Manfredi (The Preatures), Toby Martin (Youth Group) and Alex Lloyd. She has also played shows with The Preatures, Lisa Mitchell, Kasey Chambers and Holy Holy. Ness’s cover of Credence Clearwater Revival’s “Have You Ever Seen The Rain” (recorded with Asides Club) has received an eye-watering 7.5 million streams on Spotify, with CCR themselves sharing the song and calling it a “beautiful new project”. Maya Holstegge is a young South Coast artist just beginning her musical journey. After spending her youth regularly participating in the Milton Follies and The Entertainers, Maya has found her passion for connecting with audiences through music. After recently travelling overseas, Maya has returned home to share her music - captivating hearts and inspiring listeners with her soul-stirring melodies. Her distinctive voice and heartfelt lyrics are poised make a mark on the indie-folk music scene. She is currently working with a band called Circadia, who will release their first EP later this year. Alex Clark is an up-and-coming solo acoustic artist gaining recognition for her eclectic repertoire of originals and unique interpretations of classic hits. Alex’s musical style blends folk, country, punk, and rock, and is infused with her own stripped-back acoustic interpretation. Her ability to transform classic hits into fresh, interesting renditions showcases her creative approach. Based on the coast, Alex has become a fixture in the local music scene, captivating audiences with her soulful performances. Her skill with engaging the crowd and delivering classic sets tailored to each audience has earned her a loyal following and opportunities to support renowned acts such as Mental As Anything, The Rolling Stones Show, Gywen Ashton, and The Beatles Show. Georgie Lyons is a rising singer-songwriter from the Northern Beaches of Sydney who gigs locally. Her music is a unique blend of pop and indie-folk infused with heartfelt lyrics that explore themes of love, loss and self-discovery. Growing up on the Northern Beaches, Georgie drew inspiration from the area’s stunning coastal scenery and vibrant music scene. Her music captures the essence of the beach lifestyle with an infectious energy and a sense of freedom that reflects the sun-soaked culture of the region. Gaby Bonello is a talented singer-songwriter from the South Coast. She has captivated audiences with her soulful acoustic folk and country roots sound that combines in-depth storytelling and thought-provoking lyrics. In addition to her originals, Gaby also performs renditions of popular hits from the 70s and 80s. Sevilles are a female three-piece crafting an evocative and nuanced sound, beginning in early 2022 out of a parent’s garage in the Shoalhaven region. They have since based themselves in Sydney, continuously writing with a swift contrast of punk feminine rage and an intricate tenderness of folk/alt guitar. Emma (bass), Lily (drums) and Zoe (guitar) are driven by the pure joy of creating and allowing their work to speak for itself. Doors open 7.00pm, show commences approx 7.30pm
