This week Grace Turner, Hugo van Buuren and Call The Doctor are stopping by for a show.
Grace Turner grew up in the small lakeside town of Wangi Wangi, on the East Coast of Australia with her mother, an abstract painter, her father a poet and two older brothers. Her introduction to music was an early obsession with The Beatles, the Australian band Frente and an ambition to write an album for the Backstreet Boys to help them reform. Grace Turner’s work deals with both the light and dark within us, her lyricism is punchy and retains a depth and authenticity that is impossible to fake. A true artist who showcases stunning intensity, Grace Turner writes with clarity, integrity and delivers with purpose.
Hugo van Buuren has been quietly expanding his artistic practice well beyond its alt-folk roots. His latest single, 'Copper Mouth,' signals the beginning of a more unfiltered chapter led by the friction felt between continuous acoustic warmth and discrete, quantised synthetic elements. Often likened to artists like Ben Howard and ML Buch, his upcoming work explores nuances of modern life, where everything—people, politics, technology, and nature—is intertwined, and fighting for space.
Call the Doctor is the pseudonym of Naarm based freak-folk artist James Brazel. Possessing a powerful yet wistful croon, Call the Doctor’s music is firmly rooted in the 21st century yet hearkens to a timeless, unreachable past; Brazel’s guitar and voice compositions reflect a deep respect for the ageless tradition of folk music.
Social Sanctuary is proud to be sponsored by Mountain Goat.
