This week Sam Bambery, Seagull and Hannah Everingham (solo) are stopping by for a show.
Sam Bambery is a songwriter and impresario from Otautahi/Christchurch, currently based in Naarm/Melbourne. Exploring his love of semi-psychedelia through a twisted folk-rock lens, Bambery writes effectual and spacious songs burrowing into emotional identity and exhaustion. His sophomore album Rubricator released in May with micro-label Under Underground Records, edging at outsider-pop influence. "...very considered, like Bambery lived with the album in his head for a while before bringing it into the world...a hint of mystery hangs over things...it's as ornate as these well-crafted tunes" - Tony Stamp, Radio New Zealand
Seagull has been making music in Melbourne since 2007. Most gulls have a lifespan of roughly twenty years. Over the course of that time they have released 7 albums, and an EP. In their latest double album, 'What Went Wrong' and 'Could Go Right', Seagull express hunger, submission, anger, and a longing for pair-bonding. Current members include Chris Bolton, Lauren Abineri, Rohan Goldsmith and Georgia Harvey. Please enjoy!
Bursting onto the Aotearoa scene with the release of her debut album Between Bodies in 2022, Hannah Everingham quickly garnered attention across her south-pacific homeland. In 2024 she struck shores again, releasing her sophomore album Siempre Tiene Flores. A melding of weird-folk, South Pacific psychedelia and punk, the album has been lauded as a stand-out NZ release of 2024, described by Flying Out Records as a vibrant record, “blending tropical tones with introspective lyrics, warm storytelling and a touch of playful humour” and labelled by Radio New Zealand as one of the best local albums of the year. Nine songs of luscious intensity, like bathing in early evening sunshine. Having opened for the likes of A.Savage, Tiny Ruins & Marlin's Dreaming, Hannah Everingham heads to Melbourne this March, playing at Northcote Social Club March 10th.
Social Sanctuary is proud to be sponsored by Mountain Goat.
