Event Description
Mostly Mozart – Eine kleine Nachtmusik
The many moods of Mozart and Shostakovich take centre stage.
Opening with unique brass arrangements of two of Mozart’s most profound moments – the Kyrie and Lacrimosa from his Requiem – this Wednesday morning performance begins with power and pathos. Intensities deepen as Shostakovich’s searing Chamber Symphony takes flight under the direction of ANAM’s Head of Violin Adam Chalabi. Inspired by his own String Quartet No.8, Shostakovich’s deeply personal 25-minute work was written in just three days and is filled with haunting meditations on loss and survival.
To round out this hour-long expedition through the many moods of Mozart and Shostakovich, ANAM Musicians present Mozart at his most delightful in Eine Kleine Nachtmusik. With melodies sparkling throughout the Elisabeth Murdoch Hall, the classical charm of this Mozart masterpiece is the perfect conclusion for a journey from the sacred to the secular; the tragic to the triumphant.
