"Game Of Tones Quintet" Ft. Matt Kirsch & Dave Newdick

The "Game Of Tones Quintet" is a project of taking standards and simply beautiful melodies that don't have to be associated with jazz necessarily and interacting in spontaneous improvisation. This creates their unique 'Game of Tones. Improvisation. A high level of musicianship combined with good humour are part of their brand in relating to an audience.
Each band member has diverse influences and a passion for creating enough variety to entertain. Between the members there is a background in jazz -swing, latin, contemporary, television, music theatre and classical music. The great standards of Cole Porter, Dizzy Gillespie. Horace Silver plus Bach and Faure are often featured. Vocal and instrumental work plus originals are all part of “the Game” All performances have their own stamp devoid of mere imitation and the band members have individual approaches to their solos.

Rick Freeman - Piano
" A pianist for all seasons, plus clarinettist and saxophonist. A passionate versatile local who has had residencies here and overseas having led several bands. A first call accompanist and passionate performer equally at home in jazz or classical settings. "
Tim Rex - Double Bass
"A wonderful double bassist graduate from the James Morrison Academy Big Bands who has recorded with the likes of Tony Gould and Graeme Lyall to his credential"
Rob Mercer - drums
"Also a graduate of the JMJABB with a special connection with Tim and Rick is the engine room for the Game of Tones. The affable Rob has studied with many of the best drummers in the country. " Tim and Rick who create the Engine Room for the Game of Tones.

Matt Kirsch - Vocals and Guitar
"He continues his stellar career having played with Vince Jones, Joe Camilleri, Wilbur Wilde, George Fame, Marcia Hines, the Moving and Groovin' Orchestra plus many international artists. His CD “Translucent” was short listed for an ARIA award. “ A master of cool vocals and fine guitar stylings” -the Age.
Dave Newdick - Trumpet
"A first call lead trumpet player whose versatility sees him being equally at home playing exquisite ballads for example on Flugelhorn. Dave is a regular for Carols By Candlelight and in the world of Professional Music Theatre. Dave shines improvising on great tunes in the small group jazz ensemble setting. He has performed with many of the the Aus and international greats. Dave joined the army band at age 17 to hone his incredible skills. Dave played in the Hey Hey Its Saturday Band for 10 years."
