For Swing’s Sake are a Melbourne-based quintet performing instrumental music in the tradition of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli’s Quintette du Hot Club de France.
Featuring the blistering violin of Dominic T Rado, whose sound has evolved from a childhood studying in Budapest leading to shows accompanying Django’s great-nephew Lulo Reinhardt, the influences of Hungary’s street music is distinct in his improvisations.
On clarinet is Krakow native Adam Fedor, who has played in ensembles throughout Italy, Poland the UK and Russia, drawing on influences from jazz and folk traditions.
The group is underpinned by three guitarists who are aficionados of ‘la pompe’ - Sydney’s Dean Gallagher, Melbourne’s Stephen E. Stanisic and Italian ex-pat Giulio Segatti.
When asked why they play this music there is inevitably only one answer – For Swing’s Sake!
