Optic Nerve continue to perform behind their 2023 debut album Angel Numbers with this, quite likely last, headline show for the year. The album presents a chaotic collection of cut up vocals, acoustic guitars, driving rhythms, and heavily space echoed flute. Along with hometown performances and an appearance at Geelong’s Jerkfest, the album recently received a nod from FBi Radio in the form of a Record of The Year nomination. They are trying to make beautiful music.

Joining them are Cloud Ice 9, whose new tape release Hocus Pocus collects live recorded fragments from iPhone voice memos of jam sessions, building upon the twisting protopunk rhythms of last year’s stand out album Circus Street. Truly “sound-haze/bonk-clumps” indeed.

Returning from the beyond is cross state wonders Zipper, playing their first run of shows in several years. Combining members of Wireheads, Rule of Thirds, Divine Rip, and Mains, their 2020 EP Dreamers Gate played out like an ethereal incarnation of Magazine and was a personal favourite of the year.

Rounding out the bill is Wanderlust. While yet to release any music into the world, their ponderous sonic exercises meld a variety of instruments (electronic or otherwise) with shared, witty vocals. Featuring members of G2G, Terry and Den, their rare performances have become a highlight of the Sydney scene.

We acknowledge that this event is held on the stolen lands of the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation. We pay our respects to Elders, past, present and emerging. Sovereignty was never ceded.
