Described by MOJO as 'Townes Van Zandt were he refracted through the lens of Mazzy Star'

Luluc — Zoë Randell, Steve Hassett and band — will perform one show in Melbourne, April 11 to celebrate the release and perform songs from 'Diamonds', their fifth studio album. Released on LA based label Community Music, Diamonds is rich with allusions to the natural world and layered with arrangements that shimmer without being gaudy, a precisely rendered meditation on wonders too stunning to ignore, emotions too real to dismiss and melodies too beguiling to forget. References include Simon and Garfunkel, Nico, Nick Drake and Marianne Faithfull’s records in the 1960s. Diamonds, in fact, features a deep, melancholy rendition of “As Tears Go By,” the Rolling Stones-penned weeper made popular by Faithfull.

“It’s impossible for Luluc to be truly up-tempo, dragged back a pace by Zoe Randell’s low reverberant voice, like Nico fronting Morphine. This is, though, an album of upbeat rebirth, born from considered reflection.”

“As album number five arrives, Zoe Randell and Steve Hassett have honed a sound that has well defined roots (modern folk’s brooding solemnity, Mazzy Star’s hazy dreaminess) but it is entirely their own.”

"Luluc are unlikely candidates to create a classic American road song and yet, with the title track they do just that...Each album in the band's catalog is a gem and Diamonds, with its dream-like tone and bouquet of lived-in stories, is perhaps their brightest." 4.5 STARS ~ ALLMUSIC

"Melodic, majestic and delightfully mysterious, Diamonds is a towering achievement." 4 STARS ~ RECORD COLLECTOR
