This week Human Intrusion, Tam Vantage and Clit Split are stopping by for a show.
Human Intrusion, the Naarm-based two-piece project of Penelope Walker-Keefe and Lewis O’Brien, unrepentantly wear their influences on their sleeve by constructing hypnotically all-consuming walls of sound and digging deep into lush brooding aesthetics painted with reverb-laden guitar, existential angst and touches of ethereal romanticism. Their dark rock nostalgia, with ‘80s post-punk and 90’s alt-rock spirit, filters through a richly textured modern lens as unchartered intersections between new wave, goth, and shoegaze are traversed to scintillate the senses of fans of The Chameleons, Curve, The Cure, Sisters of Mercy and Siouxsie Sioux. 2023 saw the release of their vividly atmospheric self-produced debut single and eponymous EP.
'Laughing Gas & Apple Pie' is the culmination of all Tam's previous work. His 10+ years of playing in bands such as Pop Singles, The Stevens, Girlatones, Leah Senior, Permits, Carpet Burn, and Chook Race, among others, has become ingrained in his overall musicality, and the influence of each can be heard. His latest musical aesthetic draws heavily upon 90's noise-rock/grunge/alternative bands, but never loses its melodic counterpart or elaborate instrumentation. His influences of 60's psychedelia, 70's singer-songwriters, and 80's post-punk and lo-fi can all still be heard.
Clit Split are a Naarm-based band, making a mix of synth, hyper and girly pop. We don't even know if they are good but at least they have fun.
